VISITING WITH CHILDREN

Amberley is a great place to bring children. Open Wednesdays to Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays all year round, apart from a couple of weeks at Christmas, we run special activities and trails for children during school half terms and holidays – details can be found in What’s On. Our narrow-gauge railway operates daily and is a firm favourite with children as well as their parents and carers.

There is a playground with swings and other equipment next to the Limeburners Café and at the other end of the site at the Rail Hall, youngsters will enjoy Sticky the locomotive and the Children’s Station. Don’t forget our nature walks, particularly in Spring and Summer.

When you need a break, the Limeburners Café offers a delicious range of freshly made, seasonal recipes covering breakfast, lunch, snacks and treats. For children, we offer mini hot meals and lunch boxes. There are also many areas for picnics around the site.

Baby Changing is available in the Limeburners and in the toilet facilities by the Print Shop near the entrance to the Museum.

Most of the site is accessible for buggies, although the nature walks are inaccessible to wheelchairs and possibly pushchairs, depending on their design.

Most of our exhibitions are on ground level and many buildings have ramps, but there are a few viewing platforms around the site which are accessible via steps, including the Billingshurst Signal Box.

Due to the age of our buses, we do not currently have any that offer wheelchair access. There is the option of folding up smaller pushchairs to take on board. However, we do have a special wheelchair accessible carriage for our trains. This may not be in use every day, so please contact the museum to see if we can arrange it for you on your day of the visit.
