COVID-19 VISITING INFORMATION

The safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers is our number one priority so please take a moment to watch our video or read below about a number of changes we are making so that you know what to expect on your day out at Amberley.

We would like to welcome everyone back to Amberley as soon as possible but if you or anyone at home has a temperature, persistent cough or any of the symptoms of COVID-19 please delay your visit.

Due to the new Government guidance from the 14th September, please do not visit with friends and family you do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with) in a group of more than 6 (apart for exemptions and where the household (including support bubble) is greater than 6). When you are at the Museum, please maintain a distance of 2m from other households.

For everyone’s safety, all visitors must observe strict social distancing in accordance with Government guidelines. We are on a large open-air site so there is lots of space once you have entered the Museum and we are putting in one-way systems in our larger exhibitions and restricting entry to one family group at a time in our smaller buildings. Parents – please take particular care to ensure that your children are safe.

Visit England – WE’RE GOOD TO GO Certificate

Amberley Museum has been awarded with the ‘WE’RE GOOD TO GO’ certificate by Visit England. This verifies that we have followed government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, ensuring processes are in place to maintain cleanliness and aid social/physical distancing.

See more information on their website.

Before You Visit

Tickets must be booked online in advance for the day and time slot you wish to visit. This applies to members as well as day visitors.

This is to help with social distancing on arrival and enable us to carefully control the number of people on site. From 18th September it is mandatory for us to keep contact details of the lead person in any group or family for 21 days for Test and Trace purposes. There are three time slots for arrivals:

10am-11.30am

11.30am-1pm

1pm-2.30pm

You can arrive at any time during your slot (although it would help if you do not all arrive at the beginning). Once on-site you can stay as long as you like until we close at 4.30 pm.

During Your Visit

Please park your car as normal in the Museum car park at Amberley Station, taking care around other visitors and make your way down the entrance path. If there is a queue, the lines on the ground will help you to keep your distance from others. When you reach the ticket office, which is in our shop, please wear a face covering and you will be called forward – please have your ticket and membership card (if you are a member) ready.

Once your tickets have been checked, please make your way into the Museum and enjoy your visit. Look out for the Amberley Welcome Team, who will be able to help you with directions and information and will be ensuring that everyone stays safe.

We are currently not running our bus service, but hope to run our narrow-gauge railway.

Face Coverings

In line with Government requirements, please wear a face covering in the Shop, Café and in our exhibitions and buildings. Please note that this does not apply to children under 11 or to those who have a legitimate reason not to follow this advice. There will be signage to remind you to wear your face covering.

Toilets

There are three sets of toilets on the site with hand washing facilities (and hot water) – in the Limeburners Café, opposite the Print Shop and opposite Connected Earth, at the top end of the site. Each set of toilets has disabled and baby changing facilities. The toilets in the Limeburners Café and opposite the Print Shop are operating on a unisex basis ie one family group in each set of toilets at a time, with a queueing system outside each facility. The toilets opposite Connected Earth are operating as normal.

There are also lots of hand sanitisers around the Museum, but we also request that you bring your own with you when you visit if you can. Please wash your hands before and after touching any interactives.

Limeburners Cafe

The Café will be operating a takeaway service only with a separate entrance and exit. There will be lines on the floor to help you queue in a socially distanced way. Payment by contactless card is encouraged. There is seating outside on the Café Terrace and you may also bring picnics.

Leaving the Museum

Please follow the signs from the Village Green area and you will exit where you came in.

General guidelines

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short lead at all times.

Please work with us to keep everyone safe and enjoy your visit
